DETANGLING

This is a haircare process that involves the gentle removal of coiled, laced or twisted mass of hair that is highly interwoven and difficult to comb.
Detangling is done slowly and carefully and when the hair stands are wet to reduce pain, breakage and damage to the cuticles.
There are two types of detangling,
1. Dry detangling (hair is about 30 % wet, damped)
2. Wet detangling(hair is about 70 % wet, soaked or dripping wet)
The two types involves same process and tool, but differs with the rate of wetness, conditions that necessitates them, the hair type and sometimes, the hair care product used.
The two types have their pros and cons, which will be discussed later insha'Allah.
So about the process, detangling can be achieved by
1. Wetting and conditioning the hair: when water, conditioner and/or oil are generously applied to the hair, it lubricates the hair and reduces friction in it. The lubricating effect of these hair care products allows comb or brush to glide through the hair easily, thereby reducing the pain that would have accompanied the difficult combing of a tangled hair.
Note that when the hair is wet, it is in a weak state, and this necessitates being gentle while detangling.
Also, the conditioner should be a leave-in conditioner, except you want to go through the stress of rinsing your hair when you make use of the wash-out conditioner.
The leave-in conditioner is more encouraged, because you get the extra advantage of nourishing your hair your hair.
